President (Volunteer Board Officer)

NatureScaping of SW Washington is a volunteer-driven nonprofit with a mission to inspire and educate through gardens that enrich our lives, our community, and wildlife habitat. We are seeking a Board President to begin service in January 2026.
Role Summary
The President is the principal officer of the Board and provides mission-first, strategic leadership. This role emphasizes governance, culture, and external representation -ensuring that Backyard Habitat Certification and Botanical Garden Accreditation remain at the heart of our strategic direction.
The President leads through the Board and Committee Chairs rather than absorbing day-to-day tasks. Success depends on delegation, accountability, and collaboration across the Board, Coordinators, and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
• Governance & Strategy – Guide the Board in refining goals, setting annual priorities, and ensuring alignment with NatureScaping’s mission.
• Board Leadership – Chair meetings effectively, track decisions and follow- through, and recruit new governance-minded Board members.
• Culture & People – Model accountability and respect, champion Coordinator Education, and support a culture of learning aligned with habitat-creation standards.
• External Representation – Serve as an ambassador with partners, funders, and the community; strengthen credibility and build partnerships.
• Oversight – Ensure Committee Chairs have the resources and clarity to run operations without work defaulting to the President.
Qualifications
• Experience in nonprofit or volunteer-driven leadership, with the ability to guide governance and culture change.
• Strong facilitation and communication skills; comfortable with collaboration, accountability, and constructive conflict.
• Familiarity with — or interest in learning — native plants, pollinators, and ecological gardening.
• Comfortable with Microsoft Windows and Google Docs applications; must have access to a personal computer.
• Values of integrity, inclusion, and community.
Time Commitment
• Initial 3–6 months: ~25–35 hours/month (strategy, recruitment, education rollout).
• After setup: ~15–25 hours/month, depending on season.
• Meetings: Monthly Board meetings via Zoom; visible presence in the gardens encouraged but not for day-to-day work.
